Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c25023) has announced the addition of Qbit Lossless Data Reduction Technology: A Breakthrough That Will Affect Many Markets to their offering
Qbit, LLC, based in Bethesda, Maryland, has been operating in stealth mode for several years working on a series of algorithms for lossless data reduction for video, audio and image files. They are finally ready to introduce themselves.
A few key market segments are likely to provide early revenue opportunities: medical applications, video surveillance, movie and TV production, storage of large amounts of financial records, and geothermal mapping in the search for oil deposits. Non-commercial opportunities for government agencies could also be important.
However, the Qbit approach appears to have further reach than just the professional markets. Qbit believes that their technology can eventually take a High Definition TV program that, today, requires 15 Megabits/second (Mb/s) for transmission, and reduce the bit rate down to less than 4 Mb/s. Cable TV systems, Satellite TV networks, and TelcoTV services could quadruple the amount of HDTV programming they deliver, without the need to increase the amount of bandwidth they have available. Qbit's technology could have positive effects on many market segments.
