Sep. 29--Mickey Mouse, meet Oklahoma City.
Delta carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines will begin nonstop service to Orlando, Fla., in November, officials at Oklahoma City's Will Rogers World Airport said Wednesday.
The airline will offer one daily flight from Oklahoma City to the home of DisneyWorld in a 50-seat Bombardier CRJ -200 regional jet.
Orlando is a top-15 destination for travelers from Oklahoma City, said Karen Carney, airport spokeswoman.
"We've talked to several airlines over the years about the possibility of nonstop service to Orlando because it is such a big market for us," Carney said. "Several carriers have looked at it, but Delta is the first to act on it."
For a limited time, Delta is offering special one-way fares of $99 for the flights. Tickets must be purchased by Oct. 11.
"Delta is the leading airline to Florida, and we continue to respond to our customers' demands for more flights from more destinations to the Sunshine State," Bob Cortelyou, Delta's vice president for network planning, said in a statement.
The flights will begin Nov. 1. Flight 4895 will leave Oklahoma City at 7:30 a.m. and arrives in Orlando at 11:15 a.m. Flight 4894 leaves Orlando at 6:55 p.m. and arrives in Oklahoma City at 8:55 p.m.
Delta filed for bankruptcy earlier this month. Carney said she expected some of the airline's routes to be cut or reconfigured, but that was unlikely to affect service from Oklahoma City.
"They've been looking at cities that are going to be profitable for them, and they have the confidence in this particular route (to Orlando)," she said. "We're extremely excited to have this market, since it now gives us 11 of our top 15 markets that have nonstop service."
Delta also announced nonstop flights to Orlando from Tulsa, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Baton Rouge, La., and Kansas City, Mo.
