Art Anderson Begins Phase II of Maritime Electrical Engineering Software Development

Art Anderson Associates (Bremerton, Washington) has entered into the primary funding phase in the development of a maritime electrical engineering software package under a research grant from the U.S. government. The software. SeaPro. is being developed to integrate electrical parts and systems databases with vessel design software. This process will work to reduce data entry, information sharing and will meet quality assurance requirements, resulting in savings of approximately 20 percent of the final vessel design and construction cost, the company maintains.

"This package fills a large disconnect between electrical system design and shipboard production requirements." said Joseph Payne. chief electrical engineer and the project manager and principal investigator.

Payne alleges that much of the work in the current phase involves defining the format, transfer and synchronization of data between electrical design software and ShipConstructor, the ship production software utilized by many of the world's shipyards.

The SeaPro software utilizes a two-step approach to vessel design. The first step will focus on obtaining ship requirements information and developing a design package that is suitable for obtaining a reasonable bid from a prospective builder.

The second step will then provide detailed system information for the complete integration of design, equipment specifications and installation.
