Thai out-parties call for answers to airport corruption issues

BANGKOK, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Democrat-led opposition bloc of Thailand vowed to continue to investigate alleged corruption at Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi International Airport, especially that involving CTX bomb detecting machines.

According to reports from Thai media on Friday, Democrat Party Spokesman Ong-art Klampaiboon said the opposition would continue with the probe into the alleged irregularities and pay-off scandals involving procurement of the mega-million-baht CTX 9000 scanner from the United States-based GE InVision Inc, following censure debate against former transport minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit months ago.

The government has yet to answer the opposition's questions, Ong- art was quoted by Thai News Agency as saying.

The democrat said the government must see to it that maximum security and best services are provided for the international airport's passengers from all corners of the world, rather than being complaisant to the airport's largest size, longest runways and highest air traffic control tower.

Senator Pol. Gen. Prathin Santipraphop said although he was proud of this government for successfully turning the country's new international airport into reality, he was disappointed that the Suvarnabhumi Airport could not be commercially operational as earlier scheduled.

The government had also failed to fight corruption surrounding the CTX machines, he commented.
