Oct. 2--BEIJING -- Officials from Japan, China and South Korea will hold a meeting in Shanghai this month to discuss the future of third-generation mobile communications, China's official Xinhua News Agency reported Sunday.

Government officials, researchers and business people will meet to discuss consumer demand, frequency spectrum and other technology standards as 3G mobile communications becomes increasingly marketable, Xinhua said.

Participants at the conference, which is called "Beyond 3G," will examine what can be done over the next five years to fulfill Chinese predictions of full commercialization of mobile communications by 2015, Xinhua said.

The three countries have held "Beyond 3G" conferences every year since 2002, and it is China's turn to host the 2005 meeting.
