Oct. 3--TOKYO -- An international trade fair for next-generation DVD technology and other home electronics products will get under way Tuesday for a five-day run at the Makuhari Messe hall in Chiba, southeast of Tokyo, fair organizers said Monday.
DVD appliances from two rival camps of makers, respectively led by Toshiba Corp. and Sony Corp., are likely to draw visitors' keen attention, according to the organizers of the CEATEC Japan 2005, Asia's premier international exhibition of home electronics goods.
Toshiba said in a press release it will demonstrate its prototype HD DVD players hooked up to liquid crystal display televisions as well as personal computers incorporating the HD DVD technology.
Sony and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. -- both key proponents of the Blu-ray DVD format -- will exhibit home appliances incorporating the Blu-ray technology, including PC-related equipment.
Both DVD alliances say they will give visitors to their "mini theaters" at the fair forum the opportunity to experience their DVD technology's superior image quality.
More than 750 makers and industry bodies from around the globe will display their products at the fair, the organizers said, adding that they expect the number of visitors to this year's show to eclipse last year's 182,000.
