3M Adds Smallest Member to 2178 Series of Fiber Optic Splice Closures
Posted on: Tuesday, 4 October 2005, 12:00 CDT
The compact 3M fiber optic splice closure 2178-XSB features a rugged closure tested under harsh, real-world conditions to stand up to even the most severe conditions of moisture, vibration and extreme temperatures. This closure meets the needs of anyone using fiber optic splice closures in the long haul, metro, local access (DSL, HFC, mobile wireless backhaul) and FTTP feeder and distribution networks. It is a new member of the full 3M family of innovative products for fiber optic OSP deployment.
3M is introducing this new product, the smallest member of 3M's successful 2178 series of fiber optic splice closures, at the FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) Conference & Expo this week in Las Vegas. This closure is easily re-enterable to allow access to splices and the addition of drops or small diameter cables. It can be installed in any outside environment. Because the 3M fiber optic splice closure 2178-XSB is almost identical - except for size - to other closures in the series, no special tools or training are needed by those already experienced with these products.
Specifically designed only for butt-splicing applications, the closure has three cable entry ports (two 1.0-inch ports and one 1.4-inch port). The multiport grommets, which accommodate flat, round and various diameters of cable, provide for simple, flexible and future-proof drop or small-diameter branch cable additions.
The maximum single fusion and mass fusion splice capacity for the 3M fiber optic splice closure 2178-XSB is 48 fusion and 144 ribbon fibers.
