Sony Corp. said on Wednesday that it will start selling a head mounted display that provides a personal 3D theater.

The $800 device is equipped with a high definition OLED panel.

“The ℠HMZ-T1´ achieves HD picture quality that makes full use of the OLED display´s high contrast, color reproducibility, and fast response,” Sony said in a press release.

The device uses a “Dual Panel 3D Method” which consists of separate panels for the left and right eye in order to display independent HD picture quality to each eye.

The HMZ-T1 also features a 5.1 channel Virtual Surround Technology sound system.

The device must be connected to a device like a Blu-ray disc player through an HDMI cable to play movies.
