Amazon Introducing New Tablet-Friendly Website Redesign
Amazon.com Inc. said it is working on a major redesign of the world’s largest online retailer.
Reports say that the new redesign is focused on being tablet-friendly, featuring a bigger search bar and less clutter.
According to a blog by TechCrunch, the new web pages highlight music, ebooks, digital games and applications from the Amazon Appstore when using Google’s Android operating system.
The company is also introducing a new $250 tablet device aimed at rivaling Apple Inc.’s iPad.
The device features a back-lit, 7-inch screen, according to a report by TechCrunch. The tablet will be geared toward playing music and movies off the Internet.
The tablet will be Wi-Fi only and come with a color touchscreen and 6 gigabytes worth of memory.
Forrester Research believes that the tablet may sell as many as 5 million tablets in the fourth quarter.
Amazon has not said when the new site will be available to the public.
