Globility Communications Canada Selects Zhone for New Voice and Data Service Delivery

Zhone Technologies, Inc., (Nasdaq:ZHNE) the first company dedicated to building total-delivery solutions for voice, data and content services worldwide, today announced that Globility Communications Corporation has selected Zhone's Multi-Access Line Concentrator (MALC(TM)) to bring competitive telephone and high-speed data service to Canada.
With ten major centers in operation, Globility is in the process of building out its next generation network across Canada. Globility's offering provides subscribers with a choice for telephone and data connection services while simultaneously reducing costs and maintaining simplicity, reliability, and security.
Globility has selected Zhone's MALC and the 48-port Flexband line card to provide both POTS voice and ADSL2+ data service over a single line. Flexband allows carriers to deliver carrier class line-powered voice services to their subscribers quickly over existing telephone lines and without the need for new equipment in the subscribers home.
"We came to the vendor market with well defined set of commercial and product needs required to make our business model a success," said Joe Boutros, President of Globility. "Zhone's market leadership, technology suite and competitive price set the MALC apart from other players and made choosing Zhone as our access solution partner an easy decision."
In addition to support for both high-bandwidth copper and fiber access lines, Zhone's MALC supports integrated transport using Gigabit Ethernet and Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) technology. RPR provides many of the characteristics found in conventional SONET networks including QOS, sub-50 ms protection switching and simplified provisioning. However, unlike SONET, RPR allows carriers to efficiently and cost-effectively handle both TDM and packet traffic including multicast and broadcast video traffic.
David Markowitz, vice president of marketing for Zhone, said, "Zhone's MALC provides a smooth migration to packet networks. The solution allows carriers to deploy services today using TDM circuit technology and to migrate entirely to IP packet access and transport as their needs and networks dictate -- without incremental hardware."
