Irked By Poor Road Condition

THE poor road condition near the Puteri Laksamana flats in Batu Caves is

posing a danger to residents, says Bharmjit Singh.

He claims that the road off Jalan Batu Caves heading towards the flats

is riddled with potholes and is not well lit.

“It is dangerous for the residents as the road is a kilometre from the

main road and rather isolated. It is pitch dark at night. Women should

not travel alone along the stretch,” he said.

He said stray dogs roam the stretch at night, posing a danger to

pedestrians. The problem is worsened by cement lorries parked beside the

road.

“We avoid going out at night as it is too risky,” he said.

Bharmjit said he complained to the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) in

October 2004.

“They promised to repair the road in November last year but nothing has

been done,” he said, adding that he complained again in June after his

car was damaged when it hit a pothole.

* Selayang council’s assistant public relations officer, Helda Syima

Abu Talab, said help is on the way.

“We have met with representatives from Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM)

Berhad as they are the land owners.

“We are discussing terms to enable us to construct a proper road

leading to the housing area,” she said, adding that they hope to solve

the matter as soon as possible.
