Oct. 8--TOKYO -- Symantec Japan Inc. said Friday it has found a program aimed at causing glitches in Sony PlayStation Portable game consoles.

The computer security provider said if users download the unauthorized program, PSP is feared to go out of order.

Symantec said the case is the company's first detection of an illicit program designed to attack a game machine.

The program in question is called "Trojan Horse," according to Symantec. It usually poses as harmless.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., the maker of PSP, has offered updated software for users of the portable machine since Monday.

If users have updated their consoles' software, there should be no problems, said Symantec, which has so far confirmed no damage.

By the end of June this year, SCE shipped about 5 million PSP units globally, mainly in Japan and North America.
