BellSouth's Wireless Broadband Service Now Available in Palatka, Fla.

ATLANTA, Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- BellSouth announced today that its wireless broadband service is now available in Palatka, Fla. Qualified residential and business customers can sign up for BellSouth(R) FastAccess(R) Internet Service, powered by wireless broadband technology, for as low as $29.95 per month, depending on the speed selected and if combined with BellSouth local service.
BellSouth's wireless broadband service offers customers high-speed Internet access, with downstream speeds up to 1.5Mbps and no phone line needed. The system transmits signals between local radio towers and a small non-line-of-sight desktop subscriber modem that plugs into a desktop or laptop computer, or a local router.
"Palatka was an obvious choice for BellSouth to offer this exciting technology," said Marshall Criser, state president of BellSouth Florida. "Providing wireless broadband service to rural communities such as Palatka aids our efforts to continuously extend the reach of our broadband service."
In August, BellSouth deployed wireless broadband service in Athens, Ga., to meet the needs of a diverse and younger population, including college students. The company has been testing wireless broadband since 2000. Most recently, BellSouth conducted technical trials in Palatka and Daytona, Fla. As previously announced, BellSouth will offer wireless broadband in select cities later this year.
