LONDON, Oct. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- iPass Inc. today announced that global information provider Reuters has deployed iPass services to its entire organization to enable simple, secure access to the Internet and corporate resources from around the world. The iPass Corporate Access(TM) service has been rolled out to the Editorial and Internal Messaging Environment (IME) divisions in the Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA); North America; and Asia-Pacific regions. The teams, which include both journalists and support staff, will use iPass to connect from more than 150 countries around the world.
Reuters' editorial teams will use iPass Corporate Access to post stories on a wide range of subjects from the business, sport, entertainment and political worlds. Staff can use laptop and tablet PCs to post stories immediately after they have been drafted through a wide range of connectivity methods including dial-up, ISDN, GSM, wired broadband and Wi-Fi. Through the iPass Global Broadband Roaming Network, Reuters now has access to a larger aggregated network around the world, including 214 airports and well over 5,000 hotels with high speed Internet access. iPass offers its customers the largest Wi-Fi network in the world with more than 20,000 hotspots in 60 countries accessible through a single user interface. These connectivity choices delivered through the easy-to-use iPassConnect universal interface help ensure that Reuters can deliver news and content to its customers first, and ahead of their competition.
"Our Editorial and IME teams are extremely happy with the iPass solution. We haven't had a single complaint, which is amazing as they are technology savvy users," said Keith Mitchell, global head of Shared Services & Content Technology, Reuters. "As well as being simple and intuitive for the teams to use, iPass has been easy to integrate with our existing technology architecture and, most notably, our security infrastructure. From a management perspective, it also gives us great visibility on who is using the system and their usage levels. This makes it easy to control costs and identify users who have particularly high or pressing demands for the service."
The IME division provides IT support throughout the organization and will be heavy users of the iPass service. Their role requires them to travel frequently throughout the region and necessitates high-speed access to corporate resources. iPass' large Wi-Fi footprint is therefore critical to the productivity of these 8,000 users.
Reuters selected iPass for its global reach, ease-of-use and low maintenance costs. In addition, iPass is constantly updating and increasing its global footprint and is committed to adding new access points at locations required by Reuters. Last year, iPass announced Policy Orchestration to control and enforce the use of enterprise policy-based security systems with assessment and remediation, patch management and network compliance capabilities. Policy Orchestration will enable easy-to-manage, comprehensive and coordinated protection of Reuters' critical information.
"In Reuters' business, being able to send news and content as it happens is critical. To do this, their employees need a very broad and flexible range of Internet connectivity options so that no matter where they are, they are never left stranded," said Paresh Modi, managing director, iPass UK. "Reuters chose iPass because we can offer them the broadest range of access points, the fastest and easiest integration with their network and secure remote access service," he added.
