Company Builds on Successful Product Rollout in Europe with New Location to Support New and Existing Customers in the U.S.
Ekinops today announced the opening of a sales and service office in the Washington, D.C. area to meet the needs of their existing U.S. customers and to pursue the opportunities created by the growing interest in their high-speed data aggregation and transport products. Ekinops products are designed for the latest generation broadband networks, which require more efficient transport of data centric information.
For example, Ekinops is enabling equipment, such as the Nu-Wave multi-reach DWDM system from Xtera, to directly transport data and video signals using GbE. Xtera's implementation simplifies the network by eliminating intermediate SONET/SDH devices to more efficiently deliver bandwidth-intensive applications, including video, data and advanced voice services.
"We have made great strides in Europe with service providers, VARs and OEMs as our flexible software and innovative product architecture enables the transport of any type high-speed data service," said Francois Xavier Ollivier, Ekinops CEO. "Now, via customers such as Xtera, we are making inroads into the U.S. and are talking to many potential customers about our solutions ability to meet the demands of today's converged communication networks".
The Ekinops product line features up to 10 GbE, Fibre Channel aggregation and transport devices that OEMs can integrate into WDM systems. In addition, Ekinops offers small form factor customer premises equipment for site-to-site enterprise networking and 1 RU-sized units offering full central office functionality, including NEBS 3 compliancy, for network operators. For example, the Ekinops GigaMix product can transport 16 GbE channels via one 2x10 Gbs (OC-192/STM-64) line port in a 1U chassis.
"Service providers are struggling with how to collect and transport all of the data overwhelming their WDM networks," continued Mr. Ollivier. "Up to now this was done with a mix of layer 2 and 3 Ethernet and IP switches combined with traditional transport equipment - and OC-48/192 interface cards within the IP switches are very expensive. We propose to service providers a layer 1 collection and transport solution at a fraction of the current cost. Because of our small footprint, low cost of ownership and full software configurability, we can reduce the cost by a factor of 10."
