RedPrairie Corporation, a global leader in supply chain technology solutions that enable business process transformation, announced today that Atlas Cold Storage will implement RedPrairie's DLx(R) Transportation Management Solution (TMS) across its distribution network to optimize the efficiency of their growing cold storage warehousing and distribution business. Atlas operates one of the largest public refrigerated warehouse networks in North America and the largest in Canada.
The RedPrairie solution will provide transportation planning, execution and reporting capabilities necessary to meet the ever-changing demand of the transportation industry and Atlas' customers. RedPrairie's Transportation solution will provide a uniform system that enables real-time visibility throughout Atlas' business entities. Atlas plans to implement the RedPrairie TMS in their Green Bay, WI; Hatfield, PA; and McDonough, GA facilities later this year and in Canada in 2006.
The three US sites represent over 1.3 million-square-feet of refrigerated and frozen storage space with over 200 dock doors to provide pool and consolidation programs to its customers. Atlas provides refrigerated and frozen storage and transportation services to many well-known frozen food companies, with products including ice cream, prepared meals, bakery, poultry and dairy.
"Having a streamlined supply chain is important for any company - but for a third party logistics provider, it's everything. Storage and distribution is our entire business. The RedPrairie transportation solution will ensure we have the most cost efficient and effective utilization of our carriers. The RedPrairie system will also help us better utilize our employees' time. Currently they are doing a lot of manual entering, faxing, adjusting and re-entering. RedPrairie will help us eliminate that wasted time so that we may spend more time on value-added activities for our customers and maximize productivity," said Gary Jira, General Manager of US Transportation.
Jira continued, "Prompt loading and unloading of trailers, and timeliness of arrival and departure of trucks is vital to us. The RedPrairie system will help us serve our customers better and gain savings through continuous movement, backhauls and guaranteed reloads."
"Transportation needs for a third party logistics provider are more complicated due to the fact that we serve multiple customers in each distribution facility and provide consolidation services. We chose RedPrairie because the system was a great functional match for our needs," said Darryl Peacock, Senior Manager of IT for Atlas.
RedPrairie DLx Transportation manages all aspects of the transportation cycle, including planning, optimization, execution, communication and payment. The system provides the real-time tools needed to accurately build, route, tender, assign and track shipments in collaboration with carriers, customers, suppliers, 3PLs and exchanges. DLx Transportation has a continuous planning engine that responds in real-time to changes in orders, capacities and constraints.
RedPrairie Company Leader John Jazwiec comments, "Cold storage is a competitive business with sensitive products that need fast turnaround. RedPrairie's Transportation Management System can automate over 75% of shipments, making the process far more streamlined, and reducing transportation costs up to 35% at the same time."
