Boffo E-Ticket Business Flowing Into China Southern Airlines; Mega Internet Sales Means Christmas in October For China's Largest Carrier

Posted on: Thursday, 13 October 2005, 18:00 CDT

China Southern Airlines (NYSE: ZNH) (HKSE: 1055) (SHA: 600029) -- www.cs-air.com/en -- with the largest and most technically advanced aircraft fleet in The People's Republic of China, was the first airline in China to sell an Internet e-ticket in 2000 ... and its commitment to e-ticket sales five years ago is paying major dividends to the nation's largest carrier.

China Southern Airlines is currently selling approximately 570,000 airline tickets each month to the Chinese marketplace via its Chinese web site at www.cs-air.com.

The airline's ever expanding e-ticket sales are now totalling some RMB320 Million ($39M USD) each month.

China Southern calculates that at least 20% of its total sales are coming from Internet sales.

Since March 28, 2000 when China Southern Airlines launched its e-ticketing program -- through March 2005 -- the airline has sold more than RMB 4 Billion in Internet airline tickets.

"Since we first launched e-ticketing in China five years ago, we are reaping vast sales from this amazing technology," said Mr. Li Kun, COO, China Southern Airlines. He added that promoting e-ticketing as part of China Southern's overall domestic marketing programs "reduces airline operational costs and helps to offset rising high fuel costs."

With the large volume of Internet ticket sales, China Southern Airlines has saved approximately RMB 100 Million ($12 Million USD) in operational costs.

The largest airline in The People's Republic of China for the past 26 years, China Southern Airlines -- www.cs-air.com/en -- connects more than 80 cities around the globe. Major business and vacation destinations served in China include: Beijing, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Guilin, Hong Kong, Kunming, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Wuhan and as well as international service, including: Amsterdam, Bangkok, Fukuoka, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Islamabad, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Los Angeles, Manila, Melbourne, Moscow, Osaka, Paris, Penang, Phnom Penh, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo.
