ANTI-AIRPORT campaigner Archy Muir has slammed Warwick District Council for "failing" people living around Coventry Airport.
The Stoneleigh resident has accused the council of being "putty in the hands of airport developers".
Just last week the planning committee gave conditional approval to a permanent terminal, which would pave the way for the Baginton airport's ambitions to cater for two million passengers a year and expand its range of flights.
Mr Muir made his comments following a report by the West Midlands Regional Sustainability Forum.
The report states that members believe there is no need for more airport runways in the area and some councils are not listening to local people.
Speaking on behalf of the Campaign Against the Expansion of Coventry Airport (CAECA), Mr Muir said: "Local authorities have an obligation to look after the interests of local people, and sensibly manage airport expansion proposals. Unfortunately, smalldistrict councils like Warwick District Council have such meagre resources they are like putty in the hands of airport developers.
"Twice in the past 12 months, Warwick District Council's planning committee have voted against expansion at Coventry Airport. However on each occasion they inexplicably changed their minds. Why have they failed us?"
Plans for a permanent terminal, even though they have been conditionally approved by councillors, will still need to go before a government public planning inquiry in January.
A temporary terminal, currently being used by people flying in and out of Coventry with low-cost carrier Thomsonfly, has already been subject to an inquiry.
A decision on its legality and the council's order to tear it down is expected before Christmas.
Airport managing director Bill Savage said if all plans were given the go-ahead, Thomsonfly would increase passenger numbers and fly to more destinations.
