CommPartners and Station 53 Team to Provide VoIP to Yachting Vessels; Customized IP-Based Solution Via Satellite Enables Affordable Voice Connectivity at Sea

Posted on: Monday, 17 October 2005, 09:00 CDT

CommPartners, an IP-based network operator and telephony services and solutions provider, today announced that Station 53, a provider of global high-speed satellite Internet connectivity at sea, has selected its network and applications platform to provide Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services to yachting vessels. Station 53 utilizes CommPartners' network combined with advanced satellite technology to provide its customers with VoIP service on-board, with a coverage area consisting of the U.S. Caribbean, and Mediterranean Sea.

"CommPartners' telephony solutions enable us to meet the needs of our customers by providing a superior quality voice experience in an environment where communications have traditionally been very difficult and costly to manage," said Sean Farrell, President, Station 53. "This partnership will change how our customers communicate while at sea, and we are currently the only company able to provide these services at comparable speed and cost."

As a result of this partnership, CommPartners enables Station 53 to provide sea vessels with VoIP phone service, drastically reducing GSM and satellite airtime charges. With 25% growth in 4 years, the yachting industry has seen a significant increase in demand for improved communications infrastructure, and the technological advancements made in VoIP have caused the maturity of IP-based communications to meet this market need.

Station 53 most recently completed a deployment with "Apogee," a 204 foot yacht in Cartagena, Spain. "The Apogee's captain has told me he is impressed with the unmatched quality Station 53 and CommPartners provides in VoIP services at a very reasonable price, and he is pleased with the crew's decision to work with us," said Farrell.

"This unique application for VoIP services demonstrates the versatility of CommPartners' IP-based solution," said Dave Clark, president and CEO of CommPartners. "We are very excited to have entered a specialty market catering to oceangoing yachts, and our ability, together with Station 53, to successfully deploy IP telephony services within this realm has enabled an entire market to have voice-connectivity at an affordable price."

Currently, CommPartners offers the broadest IP-based network coverage to deliver residential, SMB and enterprise hosted VoIP services with over 5,000 rate centers in the domestic U.S., including Hawaii and Alaska. CommPartners has applied for and expects to obtain Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) status in all 50 states by next year, which will classify it as one of the sole largest networks of its type in the U.S. The company has architected its network for business-quality VoIP services, 911 emergency services capabilities and CALEA compliance--emerging issues that pose challenges to many VoIP service providers.

The CommPartners solution includes CommPartners Management System (CMS) proprietary OSS platform for automated provisioning, billing, user interface and back office support capabilities. Hosted features include simultaneous ring, voicemail-to-e-mail, feature activation via the web, and four digit dialing between offices. CommPartners provides VoIP facilitation services such as Subscriber Endpoint Control, Connectivity to the Public Switched Telephone Network ("PSTN"), Long Distance services, and Subscriber Management. Service providers can take advantage of all or any of these VoIP facilitation services, depending upon their existing network investments and VoIP requirements.
