InfiniCon Systems Announces OEM Relationship With Langchao Beijing, China’s Leading HPC and Commercial IT Solutions Vendor

Source: Business Wire

InfiniCon Systems, the premier provider of shared I/O and switching solutions for next-generation server networks, today announced that it has entered into an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) relationship with Langchao Beijing, one of the largest information technology vendors in the Peoples Republic of China.

Langchao will integrate InfiniCon’s InfiniBand-enabled Shared I/O and Clustering System into its commercial and High Performance Computing (HPC) systems. The relationship between InfiniCon and Langchao was fostered through Tomen Corporation, an InfiniCon distributor for the Japanese and Chinese markets.

Langchao, China’s largest domestic server vendor and third overall in server market share in China, is the first international OEM for InfiniCon’s InfinIO 7000(TM) Shared I/O and Clustering System – a multi-protocol networking system that combines InfiniBand switching fabric with Fibre Channel and Ethernet gateways in a modular 3U chassis. The technology will be used in Langchao’s HPC applications and a range of commercial applications that are network and I/O intensive, including e-mail, database, and video-on-demand.

“China is recognized as one of the largest commercial markets in the world and is growing at eight percent annually,” commented Vernon Turner, group vice president, IDC Global Enterprise Server Solutions. “This agreement positions InfiniCon well to supply an IT infrastructure that is not entrapped by legacy system inertia. It is also further proof that InfiniBand technology is gaining acceptance as a very viable solution to many looming problems.”

Langchao chose InfiniCon’s technology after it had completed an assessment of the various technologies available to meet its need for their High Performance Server (HPS) cluster that will be used for commercial IT and HPC applications. The HPS cluster system will have high performance I/O and computing capabilities in order to support applications such as Web farms, high volume e-mail, video-on-demand clusters, and database applications. Each cluster will require access to Ethernet and/or Fibre Channel networks, while the clusters will use a high bandwidth/low latency 10Gbps InfiniBand interconnect to link nodes together and provide a centralized storage and network interface. The InfinIO 7000(TM) Shared I/O and Clustering System meets all these requirements.

“This announcement is a milestone for InfiniCon and the relationship we have with Tomen, our Asian distributor,” said Bill King, vice president of sales and marketing for InfiniCon. “InfiniCon is now penetrating the largest international markets with OEM partners that are aiming squarely at the market for high performance commercial computing.”

Langchao is concentrating on two development strategies: one is server and server-based products with embedded software, for vertical market solutions; the other is comprehensive applied software for the communications industry. The group manages the State Enterprise Technology Center, State Enterprise Postdoctoral Workstation and the key server technology laboratory for Shandong province. Langchao has become the center of excellence for the Chinese national hi-tech program.

InfiniBand is a high bandwidth, low latency I/O architecture that simplifies and speeds server-to-server connections and can provide access to related systems such as storage and networking devices. With bandwidth of 10Gbps per link compared to the 1Gbps throughput in use today, and latency measured in nanoseconds versus Ethernet’s millisecond performance, InfiniBand is a key enabling technology for state-of-the-art server deployments. InfiniCon is the first company to deliver a fully developed, end-to-end InfiniBand solution, providing both hardware and software at the host layer, fabric, and management layers. The company’s InfinIO 7000(TM) Shared I/O and Clustering System – the first end-to-end InfiniBand solution to deliver affordable 10Gb networking to industry standard servers – was launched in September 2002.

About Langchao Beijing

Langchao Beijing was one of the earliest national large enterprises involved in the IT industry in China. It developed the first Chinese microcomputer in 1983 and after years of pioneering work and technological creativity, Langchao has expanded into a sophisticated industrial IT group with two public companies, devoted to developing server and server-embedded software and comprehensive applications software. The group has also become a leading supplier of Internet equipment and solutions. Langchao created the Chinese character beeper and formulated the standard for current Chinese character beepers. In 1993, it started the server industry in China and is the largest national supplier of server products and settlement programs. Its products include servers, PCs, applied solutions, comprehensive application software for communications, finance, ERP, and management software for small and midsize enterprises. The group partners with leading international companies including Microsoft and Intel. Langchao’s quality control is strictly in accordance with international quality assurance standards and the group obtained ISO9001 approval in 1997 and ISO14001 in 1998, making it the first enterprise awarded these two important approvals in this field.
