Technology Managers Forum Selects MCI for 2005 Best Practices Award for Technology Innovation
Posted on: Monday, 17 October 2005, 12:00 CDT
ASHBURN, Va., Oct. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MCI, Inc. today announced it received the 2005 Best Practices Award for Technology Innovation from the Technology Managers Forum in recognition of its patent- pending IMPACT network management platform. This annual award, given by the professional association for IT managers, recognizes achievements in technology management that provide businesses with a competitive advantage.
"We are proud that the Technology Managers Forum has selected MCI to receive its Best Practices in Technology Innovation Award," said Elizabeth Hackenson, MCI executive vice president and CIO. "IMPACT demonstrates MCI's continued leadership and commitment to innovation in network architecture design to deliver managed network services with the highest level of performance and reliability."
MCI's patent-ending, network management system IMPACT is believed to be the first end-to-end business process automation implementation for network fault management for a service provider. Conceptualized in 1999, the implementation of IMPACT represents a significant breakthrough in network management automation, directly benefiting customers by enabling networks to run more smoothly, and allowing MCI to deliver some of the fastest fault restoration times available.
"Not only does IMPACT make the network more consistent and reliable, but it allows MCI's network operations team to focus more on customer activities requiring complex decision-making," said Kevin Gahan, MCI senior vice president of global network management. "IMPACT is truly expanding the role of MCI's technical support staff."
IMPACT performs automatic alarm detection, fault isolation, trouble-ticket generation, event and maintenance correlation, customer notification and updating without the manual intervention of network support staff. In addition to increasing productivity and reducing network operation expenses, MCI's IMPACT network management platform and rapid fault isolation capabilities have enabled MCI to reduce the average repair time for Managed Network Service customers by 60 minutes. As a result, MCI launched the most aggressive restoration service level agreement guarantees in the industry in April.
"MCI has created an integrated and highly automated network management system for troubleshooting network problems for its customers," said Priscilla Tate, executive director of Technology Managers Forum. "Through an innovative use of technology platforms, MCI has moved many manual business processes to an automated fault handling system. The net result is that customers receive a more timely remediation of network issues. MCI's IMPACT is exactly the kind of technology solution that improves the competitive advantage of their business service that our Best Practice Awards seek to recognize."
Joshua Morris, MCI IT director of network management systems, will accept the 2005 Best Practices Award for Technology Innovation on behalf of MCI during a special award luncheon ceremony at the Technology Managers Forum's 12th annual Enterprise Forum conference October 20 in New York City.
MCI has been a Managed Network Services provider since 1989, and today manages more than 3,100 customer networks in 149 countries, including overseeing 22,000+ non-MCI connections from more than 60 network providers globally. MCI has a history of service and innovation in network management- recently exemplified by its receipt of the 2005 Frost & Sullivan Customer Service Leadership Award and its patent-pending IMPACT Rapid Fault Isolation capabilities enabling MCI to lead the industry in service level commitments.
