IDT(TM) (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.) (Nasdaq:IDTI), a leading provider of network search engines, today announced that Ample Communications has selected the IDT 75K62134 network search engine (NSE) to accelerate search performance in its Internet Appliance solution, a complete production-ready hardware solution for network system developers. Using the industry's first NSE device with a glue-less integrated Network Processor Forum (NPF) Look-Aside (LA-1) interface to leading network processor units (NPUs) with Ample's board-level products, Ample's customers can quickly and easily develop application-ready platform products. IDT and Ample are demonstrating this Internet Appliance solution in booths #408 and #316 at NSDC, held today through Thursday in San Jose.
"With its proven ability to accelerate search performance and its popularity in the market, the IDT LA-1 NSE was a logical choice for our Internet Appliance solution," said Mat Steinberg, Director of Business Development for Ample Communications. "IDT offers a wide range of value-added products for the networking market, and we look forward to expanding our relationship to include other IDT products in the future."
Dave Cech, director of marketing for the IDT IP co-processor division, added, "Ample has developed a highly integrated design platform that incorporates best-in-class products from leading vendors, and we are pleased to be working with Ample on this exciting network solution that helps customers improve their time to market. Among its innovations, this appliance offers flexible interface types that allow customers to bring secure server and VPN products to market quickly at lower cost. Today's announcement strengthens IDT's position as the NSE partner of choice for leading packet processing silicon and board solutions."
Highly Integrated Network Solution
Ample's Internet Appliance solution is comprised of three SPI-4.2 based Ethernet Network Interface Cards (NIC) featuring Ample's Harrier family of 24-port and 12-port 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet MAC devices and a new 5 Gbps packet processing card, featuring the IDT 75K62134 NSE. The NIC solution offers footprint and software compatibility for full-rate and intelligently oversubscribed devices. Typical applications for the hardware include high-performance secured routing, VPN gateway appliances and VPN-offload blades for routers and switches. The Internet Appliance is available from Ample Communications to OEMs and ODMs desiring to jumpstart their product development.
The Ample solution gives customers the flexibility to develop a custom-made Internet appliance by adding their own differentiated software. Leveraging Ample Communications' SPI-4.2 based Ethernet NICs, customers have a variety of interface types and capabilities from which to choose. This interface flexibility allows customers to design products faster and with more capabilities, while significantly reducing development costs and time to market.
The IDT 75K62134 NSE includes a set of Dynamic Database Management features and sophisticated instruction capabilities that result in up to 70 percent power savings when compared to alternative solutions. Additionally, the ability to offload searching tasks from the network processor provides extra headroom, permitting the network processor to provide value-added, revenue-generating services, such as traffic management, security and accounting.
