SNCF Orders More TGVs
By Anonymous
FRENCH National Railways (SNCF) has signed two orders for high- speed TGV trains with Alstom, which are worth a total of euro550 million.
The first order is for 24 double-deck TGV Duplex trains, plus four rakes of coaches without power cars. The order is the last option of an agreement signed in 2000 to supply 82 TGV Duplex trains from an Alstom-Bombardier consortium. The trains will operate on the TGV Mditerrane line between Paris and Marseille. Power cars from the existing fleet will be matched to the unpowered cars, which will be used on the TGV Rseau network.
Meanwhile, eight power cars are being supplied for the TGV Est network, which will run from Paris to eastern France, Germany, and Switzerland. They will be used with renovated TGV Rseau trains, which will allow these to be coupled with the four unpowered TGV Duplex rakes of the first order.
