Technology Professional Services Association Creates 'The Service 50' Index

Posted on: Thursday, 20 October 2005, 09:00 CDT

The Technology Professional Services Association (TPSA) today announced the creation of "The Service 50." Defined as 50 of the most influential technology solution providers based on service revenue, The Service 50 is an aggregation and analysis of publicly reported data including total revenue, service revenue, service margins, percentage of revenue product companies receive from service, and other key metrics.

This data will be used to complement TPSA's own member benchmark studies, and TPSA anticipates the combined information-pooling will result in the most comprehensive data points ever compiled for the technology professional services industry.

"A key reason that TPSA was formed earlier this year was to undertake a systematic benchmarking study of the technology professional services industry," noted Thomas Lah, executive director of TPSA. "The first step in this process is to assemble and analyze publicly reported data from the largest providers of technology services."

"By looking at the data we'll be able to answer questions such as what percentage of revenue comes from services versus products? What gross margins are achieved? Over time, we'll be trending this data for our members and offering unprecedented insights that will help organizations better manage their service businesses," added Lah.

The Service 50, in alphabetical order, are: Accenture, Acxiom Corporation, Affiliated Computer Services, Avaya, BEA Systems, BearingPoint, BMC Software, Cerner, Cisco, Cognos, Computer Associates International, Computer Sciences Corporation, Compuware, Convergys, Diebold Inc., DST Systems, EDS, EMC, Emdeon, Fiserv, Hewlett-Packard Company, Hyperion Solutions, IBM, IKON Office Solutions, Intuit, Juniper Networks, Kanbay International, Keane, Lucent Technologies, McAfee, Mentor Graphics, Mercury Interactive, MPS Group, NCR Corporation, Network Appliance, Novell, Oracle, Parametric Technology, Pitney Bowes, Reynolds & Reynolds, Sapient, Sun Microsystems, Sungard Data Systems, Sybase, Symantec, Symbol Technologies, Tibco Software, UGS Corporation, Unisys and Xerox.

In an open webcast scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Eastern today, Lah will profile the fifty companies, identify trending data from the companies that the association will be tracking over time for its members, and comment on critical observations that can be made from this first "snapshot" of the technology services market.

"Professional services represents a high-growth sector of our economy. In the technology industry especially, it is essential to peel back the layers and really understand services in order to fully understand and appreciate the overall health of the technology market itself," said Lah.

Launched last month, TPSA was formed by a core group of US-based technology companies to fill the critical information gap in the industry and thereby empower professional services organizations to better serve the needs of their individual customers, while providing improved efficiencies and operations.
