Amedia Networks to Offer VDSL2 Home Gateway for Triple Play Services
Posted on: Thursday, 20 October 2005, 09:00 CDT
Amedia Networks, Inc. (OTCBB:AANI), a provider of switched Ethernet ultra-broadband solutions for the Triple Play Access Market, today announced that it will begin offering the HG-V100, a standards-compliant VDSL2-based Ethernet Home Gateway for carriers using IP DSLAMs in their access networks. The HG-V100 features many of the same leading-edge attributes of the PG1000 that was unveiled earlier this year as part of the Amedia QoStream(TM) FTTN solution, and demonstrated at this year's SUPERCOMM.
With 69% of all US broadband households projected to have a Home Gateway by 2009, according to a recent Parks Associates forecast, the Home Gateway market is poised for significant growth. Another leading research firm, In-Stat/MDR, estimated that worldwide shipments of Home Gateways would grow at 30% per year, reaching 18 million units by 2008. These and other reports anticipate a general decline in traditional modem shipments commensurate with the growing shipments of Home Gateways.
The HG-V100, which will be available for shipping in December, 2005, will be the first such product in the market with the range of capabilities and features that telephone companies have sought-out to support their ultra-broadband deployments. It uses an Ikanos FX100100 chipset that supports the recently approved ITU-T G993.2 VDSL2 standard, and is designed to connect to any standards-based IP DSLAM. Thanks to the use of VDSL2 technology, the HG-V100 supports up to 100 Mbps downstream and upstream bandwidth, making it suitable for a broad range of advanced services such as IPTV.
"Amedia is emerging as a key player in the exploding market for residential gateways, and we are pleased to be delivering our field-proven VDSL2 solutions for the HG-V100," said Dean Grumlose, vice president of marketing at Ikanos.
The HG-V100's customer interfaces include four 10/100 BaseT Ethernet ports (RJ-45) and two VoIP FXS ports (RJ-11). Multiple USB interfaces and options for HPNA v3 (ITU-T G.9954) and MoCA ports to support these increasingly popular options for-home wiring are anticipated to be available in mid-2006. Other features of the HG-V100 include:
-- Optional 802.11 b/g wireless router
-- MGCP/NCS 1.0 and SIP protocols
-- Layer 2 and Layer 3 security including 802.1x authentication, access control lists, firewall, NAT, MAC address filtering, wireless encryption and protected access protocols
-- VPN Pass-thru for PPTP, L2TP and IPSec
-- Embedded PPPOE and TR-069 support
-- In-service software upgrades
-- DiffServ, TOS, and per VLAN QoS
-- IGMP v1/v2 Snooping
-- DHCP Client and Server
-- Support for external battery back up
-- also available in a fully hardened version for outdoor placement
The carrier grade HG-V100 employs the industry leading Quality of Service features and wire speed performance (up to 100 Mbps) that have become the hallmark of Amedia's QoStream(TM) product family. Support of multiple performance guarantees and per port rate limiting, along with per VLAN bandwidth provisioning in 1 Mbps increments, enable tiered service offerings by carriers to maximize revenue.
These capabilities and performance were demonstrated earlier this year at the FTTH Conference and Expo where a single prototype of the HG-V100, connected via CAT3 copper pairs, was demonstrated driving 3 HDTVs, 1 SDTV, and 4 different voice lines -- with capacity to spare.
Commenting on Amedia's Home Gateway, Frank Galuppo, President and CEO of Amedia noted, "We have received extremely positive reactions from prospective customers who have seen our VDSL-based PG1000 Premises Gateway and its performance ever since we introduced it back in February. The HG-V100 incorporates those attributes that have been found most compelling and packages them in a device that can be used with any vendor's standards-based IP DSLAM to maximize the revenue generating capability of those networks through a triple play offering."
