By Kyodo News International, Tokyo

Oct. 21--TOKYO -- Yahoo Japan Corp. said Friday both its group operating revenue and net profit for the fiscal first half to Sept. 30 rose to all-time highs due to the continued expansion of high-speed Internet use in Japan.

The Internet portal operator's net profit for the six-month period rose 26.5 percent from a year earlier to 21.45 billion yen, with revenue coming to 80.02 billion yen, up 57.0 percent.

Its consolidated pretax profit increased 33.0 percent to 36.36 billion yen.

But net profit per share fell to 1,390.20 yen from 4,397.69 yen a year before as the number of shares increased due primarily to a stock split implemented in the previous fiscal year.

Yahoo said it saw rising revenue from posting advertisements, especially during the July-September period when it jumped 86.9 percent from the same period last year.

Among other business segments, the listing division, which offers such services as a keyword-based data search, boosted revenue 81.1 percent to 22.01 billion yen. The division accounted for 27.5 percent of the overall revenue.

The revenue from the auction division, which accounted for 20.6 percent of the overall revenue, was 16.52 billion yen, up 35.6 percent.

The firm, which belongs to a business group led by Internet investor Softbank Corp., said it has no plans to pay a dividend for the first half. A dividend payment plan has yet to be fixed for the current fiscal year to next March.

The firm refrained from releasing earnings projections for the whole fiscal year, citing a rapidly changing environment surrounding the Internet.

But it estimated its group net profit for the October-December quarter at 10.85 billion to 12.35 billion yen on revenue of between 44.60 billion and 47.70 billion yen.
