iVivity Announces Multi-Port Fibre Channel Companion Chip Featuring Enterprise Class Functionality With 4 and 10 Gbps Wire Speed Throughput
Posted on: Monday, 24 October 2005, 12:00 CDT
iVivity(R), the leading provider of storage network building block technologies including industry leading iDiSX(R) storage network processors, software and custom board solutions, today announced a companion chip that extends the iDiSX architecture to support end-to-end Fibre Channel system configurations. The iFCC4210 supports 4 ports of 1,2 or 4 Gbps FC or 1 Port of 10 Gbps and has a SPI-4.2 interface for chip-to-chip connectivity. The iFCC 4210 provides full N, F, E and AL port functionality with SPI4.2 ecosystem as well as optimized class 2 and class 3 functionality.
"While we have always supported Fibre Channel on the back end to the disk or target, our customers were also interested in multi-protocol and end-to-end Fibre Channel solutions to enable them to compete in the 4Gbps and 10Gbps switch and array appliance markets," said David Coombs, CEO of iVivity. "The capabilities of our 4210 FC companion chip, combined with extensible Linux programmability and hardware assist capability of the iDiSX 2000, provide increased performance and the ultimate flexibility to design competitive next-generation systems. Our companion chip provides end-to-end Fibre Channel virtualization and RAID, enables 4Gbps and 10Gbps configurations and is scalable to 8Gbps."
"iVivity's decision to extend its architecture to support end-to-end FC provides system designers the ability to efficiently and quickly build systems with full enterprise class functionality complete with class two and three support," said Arun Taneja, principle analyst of the Taneja Group. "The iDiSX storage network architecture is a powerful example of the gains in performance, cost-efficiency and time to market over developing proprietary ASICs, and iVivity's FC companion chip extends these benefits to an even broader set of customers."
About iVivity
Founded in 2000, iVivity has recently brought to market a revolutionary new storage network architecture named iDiSX(R) that is accelerating the trend toward a more intelligent and higher performance storage network. iDiSX storage network processor based systems are higher performance, more compact, less costly, and easier to design and develop than comparable custom ASIC and/or software on general purpose platforms. iVivity designs and provides HBA and system boards based around its storage network processors per custom OEM specifications. Additional services include integration of custom or third-party software stacks for data protection, data management, information life cycle management and disaster recovery. iVivity headquarters are in Atlanta, Georgia.
