Pannaway Technologies Creates Primary Line VoIP Partner Program to Ensure SIP-Based, Lifeline and E 911 Calling in Multi-Vendor Environments

Posted on: Tuesday, 25 October 2005, 09:00 CDT

Industry's First VoIP Certification Program Will Leverage Pannaway's Primary Line VoIP System to Promote Telco-Grade Networks for Rural IOCs, CLECs and Municipalities

Pannaway Technologies, Inc., designers and developers of RUS listed, converged broadband voice, video and data platforms, today announced the premier of its Primary Line VoIP Partner Program(TM), the industry's first VoIP certification program that promotes lifeline and E 911 calling across multi-vendor product environments. This interoperability and compatibility certification program is designed to promote the implementation of true telco-grade VoIP networks, giving telecom service providers the assurance that primary line certified solution sets will deliver lifeline and E 911 calling capabilities in production environments while meeting today's stringent regulatory requirements. By partnering with the industry's leading softswitch, media gateway and feature server vendors, Pannaway will ensure that rural telecom service providers of all types and sizes have access to fully integrated, E 911 capable IP-based solutions for converged broadband service delivery.

As part of the certification program, Pannaway has constructed a dedicated lab facility in its Portsmouth, New Hampshire headquarters which is operated by Pannaway technicians and is equipped to house and test multi-vendor solution elements to ensure compatibility with Pannaway's multi award-winning Primary Line(TM) VoIP system. Pannaway has also worked with new and existing partners to create an interoperability specification test suite which can be performed live at each partner's site. Based on patent-pending technology, Pannaway's Primary Line VoIP system leverages Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) to provide automatic failover to an always-available remotely powered backup phone line, which runs transparently to the subscriber over the existing POTS/ADSL line. In addition, the system seamlessly integrates with the operator's existing E 911 service.

"While VoIP has made significant progress in the past year, the issues of E 911 reliability and lifeline dial tone have impeded the technology's ability to reach its full potential," said Mark Carpenter, vice president of business development at Pannaway. "The benefits of VoIP have been well-documented, but lifeline calling reliability has emerged as a major concern within the industry. With so much at stake, the importance of telco-grade network availability is paramount for mass VoIP adoption and we are pleased with the early reception we're receiving from highly visible VoIP equipment providers."

In order to gain a foothold in the lucrative Triple Play market, rural telecom providers must have the ability to deliver a converged suite of video, data and telco-grade voice services which include VoIP with advanced calling features such as time-of-day call forwarding, call waiting and caller ID TV screen pops combined with regulatory compliant lifeline and E 911 call handling. Pannaway's Primary Line Partner Program is designed to help rural independent operating carriers (IOCs), competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs) and municipality broadband providers establish a competitive advantage over local cable, wireless and satellite providers through the availability of the industry's most innovative and reliable next-generation VoIP solution. Along with technology collaboration, Pannaway will work with its new Primary Line Partners on joint sales, training and marketing initiatives.

Pannaway also announced today that CopperCom, a leading next-generation softswitch vendor, is the first member in the Primary Line Partner Program (see release "CopperCom and Pannaway Announce Interoperability on SIP-based Networking"), with numerous other partners forthcoming. Pannaway and CopperCom will be joined by Motorola at Telecom '05 in Las Vegas to present a session titled "Driving Forces for the Evolution of IP Networks." The presentation, which will take place on Thursday, October 27 at 1:30 p.m., will be hosted by Kermit Ross, president of Millennium Marketing, and will feature commentary from Mike Skubisz, CTO at Pannaway, Bob Kersey, vice president of partner and market development at CopperCom and Gerry White, vice president of partner and market development at Motorola.
