PAETEC Offers Emergency Access Transport Service to VoIP Providers

Posted on: Tuesday, 25 October 2005, 15:00 CDT

PAETEC Communications, Inc., announced that it has created a transport service that assists Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) providers in complying with impending federal requirements regarding emergency 911 access.

PAETEC's Emergency Access Transport Service will allow VoIP providers to use dedicated T-1s from PAETEC to terminate emergency calls to the appropriate Public Service Answering Point (PSAP) in the caller's location. A PSAP is a location, such as a 911 Center, where emergency calls are answered.

PAETEC's solution builds upon the VoIP provider's knowledge of its customer base combined with PAETEC's extensive routing capabilities. The result is a highly cost-effective solution that is easy to implement.

"VoIP providers know best where their customers are located, and PAETEC has existing connections to PSAPs," said EJ Butler, chief operating officer for PAETEC. "The bottom line is that with PAETEC's Emergency Access Transport Service, VoIP providers can use our existing 911 network without adding the expense of building their own connection."
