Employees and Customers of American Airlines, American Eagle to Make Substantial Donations to United Way Relief Efforts

Posted on: Friday, 28 October 2005, 15:01 CDT

FORT WORTH, Texas, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Employees of American Airlines and American Eagle, as well as a frequent flyer representing American's 50 million AAdvantage members, tomorrow will formally present substantial donations to the United Way to assist with hurricane relief efforts.

AMR employee representatives Bob Chase, Mark Mitchell, Toni Russell, Rick Smith, and Val Jester will present a check for $75,000 to the United Way. This represents a portion of the funds donated by AMR employees around the world to support fellow employees affected by Hurricane Katrina, as well as charitable organizations assisting with hurricane relief.

David Perry, an AAdvantage Gold member from Plano, Texas, will present a certificate to the United Way for 100 million AAdvantage miles donated by American Airlines AAdvantage members as part of the "Miles to Move Forward" program. AAdvantage miles donated to the fund provide assistance with air transportation for individuals displaced by recent hurricanes. Perry himself donated 100,000 miles to that effort, which is continuing through Dec. 31, 2005.

The presentations will be made at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport during ceremonies marking American's move into the airport's new international Terminal D. Accepting the donations on behalf of the United Way will be Tim Carter, President and CEO of the United Way of Metropolitan Tarrant County (Texas).

"We are very grateful for these generous donations made by the employees of AMR and their customers," said Carter. "The natural disasters of the past few months have had a terrible impact on our country, but ironically, they have brought out the best in us in many ways. The efforts of AMR employees and customers will help significantly in rebuilding lives, homes and communities devastated by these recent events."
