AWR Announces WiMAX Broadband Fixed-Wireless Design Capability for VSS; Solution Originally Developed for TriQuint Semiconductor Provides Industry With an Important New Technology

Posted on: Monday, 31 October 2005, 00:00 CST

Applied Wave Research, Inc. (AWR(TM)), a leading provider of high-frequency electronic design automation (EDA) tools, today announced that its Visual System Simulator(TM) (VSS) software now provides a WiMAX broadband fixed-wireless solution for the design of WiMAX-certified broadband wireless access (BWA) products. The solution fully meets the IEEE standard 802.16-2004 Wireless MAN-OFDM PHY specifications, and includes all the bit level functions, framing, randomization, RS-CC coding, interleaving, modulation, pilot, channelization, and bandwidth options for uplink and downlink operations.

WiMAX capability and interoperability in BWA communications products enables network operators worldwide to deliver economical broadband data, voice, and video services to both residential and business customers. The standard, which delivers high-capacity point-to-multipoint connectivity, is backed by over 220 of the world's most prominent communications equipment companies.

"AWR's support team and software products are an integral part of the TriQuint design process, so AWR was a natural partnership choice when we needed to develop a WiMAX standard capability," said Dr. Chuck Campbell, design engineering director at TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. "The seamless integration of Microwave Office circuit design and VSS system design software in one platform has really helped our engineers meet the challenges of designing cutting-edge integrated circuit products quickly and easily."

"We are pleased that our long-standing partnership with TriQuint provided an opportunity not only for AWR to develop this important new technology, but to deliver an essential new capability to a valued customer," said Dr. George Chrisikos, engineering director of systems development at AWR. "As a result of this effort, we are excited to be able to add the WiMAX standard capability to the rich list of features in our VSS design environment, and make it available to the design community worldwide."

Pricing and Availability

The VSS WiMAX solution is available immediately and is included with yearly, time-based licenses of the VSS design suite. The product supports Linux and Windows 2000 and XP. About VSS

VSS is a comprehensive software suite for the design of complete, end-to-end communications systems. The VSS technology uses an advanced, time-based simulation engine coupled with a circuit simulation tool that enables systems and circuit designers to work together within a single environment to perform interactive, top-down analysis of analog and digital communications systems. VSS effectively gives the entire engineering organization the "big picture," including the RF impairments in the presence of complex modulated signals. The solution reduces time-to-market by providing a single integrated environment wrapped in an intuitive, easy-to-use interface. VSS technology enables designers to easily make critical system performance measurements, accurately analyze the impact of radio-frequency (RF) components on modulated signals, and make cost effective trade-offs between system and circuit specifications.
