Network Engines Rolls Out Major New NS Series Product Line Enhancements

Posted on: Monday, 31 October 2005, 09:00 CST

Network Engines, Inc., (NASDAQ-NENG), a leading OEM appliance partner for Microsoft security solutions, today announced version 3.0 software for all Network Engines NS Series Security Appliances including two new hardware platforms, the NS6250 and NS8400. The new features included in 3.0 deliver platform extensibility, management integration into the Microsoft Operations Manager, or MOM, environment and advanced protection for web-based communications, including web content security for Microsoft assets including Exchange(TM), SharePoint Portal server, and IIS Webserver.

The NS Series, powered by Microsoft(R) Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2004, is a family of multi-functional security appliances designed for small and medium size businesses, remote offices and large enterprises to meet stringent security requirements and regulatory compliance mandates. NS Series appliances are an integral part of a comprehensive "defense-in-depth" strategy delivering unparalleled application-layer filtering and security features designed to protect core Microsoft applications.

"The key themes for our latest release of the NS Series are platform extensibility, increased security through integration of Websense web security software, and better integration into the customer's Microsoft management environment," said Mike Riley, vice president of marketing and corporate strategy for Network Engines. "Our aim is to continue to deliver to our resellers and their customers solutions that deliver more deployment options, improved manageability and enhanced security through their NS Series Security Appliances. Our goal ultimately is to reduce the total cost of ownership associated with deploying a defense-in depth-strategy to protect mission critical Microsoft infrastructure applications."

"We applaud Network Engines' latest NS Series release, as this is part of their larger initiative to enhance and extend Microsoft security and server assets. Now IT departments large and small will spend less time deploying, managing and maintaining their systems," said Marcus Schmidt, senior product manager for Microsoft Corporation.

"With this latest release, Network Engines has done a great job of taking a complex solution and making it easy to deploy for any number of network scenarios. The added ability to be securely monitored by MOM makes the NS Series a perfect solution for organizations with remote locations," said Randy Bridges, vice president of operations with Diamond Head Computers of California.

In addition to many other enhancements, NS Series software version 3.0 offers the following new features:

Superior Manageability

Secure support for Microsoft's Operation Manager (MOM) - NS Series appliances can now be securely monitored through the MOM management console. This functionality allows greater ease of management and better leverage of the customer's Microsoft investment.

Network Engines has enhanced management through MOM by adding Mandatory Access Control technology to its appliances, ensuring that only authorized administrators can execute secure tasks within the NS Series appliance environment.

Increased Web Security

Websense Security Suite - fully integrated into the NS Series 6400 and 8400 platforms.

All NS Series Security Appliances benefit from Network Engines Web Server (NEWS(TM)) technology, which provides intuitive appliance management capabilities. Security administrators will find that the NEWS interface is easy to use while enabling consistent management and delivery of service throughout the network.

In Addition to 3.0 Network Engines Announces Two New Appliance Platforms

NS6250 - The NS6250 is a lower cost solution for smaller business or branch locations wanting the benefits of ISA Server 2004.

NS8400 - The NS8400 is the highest performance platform to date, offering high availability and hot swap capabilities for power supplies and disk drive components.
