Perforce Software today announced that IHP -- Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics -- has selected Perforce, the Fast Software Configuration Management (SCM) system, to manage the development of its hardware and software solutions for wireless communications, networking and multimedia applications. IHP selected Perforce's SCM system for its combination of high performance and competitive pricing. It is expected that Perforce will increase productivity among IHP's hardware and software developers.
While IHP was impressed with Perforce's high performance and competitive price, Perforce's multi-platform coverage was also an important factor when IHP was comparing different SCM solutions. Additional advantages in Perforce's favour included its near zero administration overhead, ease-of-use and functionality.
IHP is a research institute that partners with industry, universities and other research organisations around the world. It offers customers and partners access to its powerful 0.25 um SiGe:C BiCMOS technologies. The technologies are suited to applications in the higher GHz bands (e.g. for wireless, broadband, radar).
IHP has deployed Perforce on Windows and Solaris/NFS platforms to manage VHDL, chip layout, and firmware development. The company has integrated Perforce with Synopsys and Cadence tools, and with Microsoft Office, using the Perforce Plug-in for Microsoft Office.
Commenting on its decision to deploy Perforce, Prof. Rolf Kraemer, head of IHP's department of System Design, said: "IHP needed an SCM system that was flexible enough to offer platform independence, and the ability to integrate with a range of development tools without compromising the performance of the overall system. While Perforce addresses these requirements, it was the solution's outstanding performance and cost effectiveness that impressed us the most. IHP believes Perforce will play a significant role in our ongoing mission to enhance the competitiveness of German and European microelectronics."
Dave Robertson, Director of European Operations, Perforce said, "IHP joins the growing list of companies such as National Instruments, MStar Semiconductor, Silicon Graphics, Cypress Microelectronics and Samsung that depend on Perforce for fast, low maintenance and cost effective software configuration management, during hardware and software development." He added: "Perforce majors on performance and price, and IHP is another example of a customer set to benefit from Perforce's ability."
