New Enterprise-Ready Capabilities Facilitate Greater Collaboration, Impact Analysis, and Traceability When Managing Changing Requirements
Borland Software Corporation (NASDAQ:BORL), the global leader for Software Delivery Optimization(TM), today announced a new version of its requirements management system -- CaliberRM(TM) 2005. The updated release (CaliberRM 2005 Release 2) is designed to increase communication, productivity and usability when managing requirements across the application lifecycle, with requirements management support for business and IT analysts, project managers, developers and testers.
New capabilities being introduced in this release include improved linking and traceability features to more extensively connect requirements with the rest of the application lifecycle -- key to better manage the continuous changes that occur in the software delivery process. It also includes added secure sockets layer (SSL) support for enhanced security, and new enterprise-class licensing options to help improve internal tracking, reporting and auditing across teams.
"Change is an inevitable fact that affects all phases of software delivery," said Marc Brown, director of product solutions, Borland. "A comprehensive requirements management system can help IT organizations assess the impact of change, communicate that impact across teams and respond more efficiently to those changes. This, in combination with having the right processes and best practices in place, can help ensure all stakeholders are working together to deliver on up-to-date, common goals."
Rosetta Biosoftware, a leading developer of informatics solutions and provider of services that enable research organizations to conduct life-saving discoveries and develop drugs, uses Borland's CaliberRM and Borland's StarTeam(R) change management products to manage requirements, source code, change requests and documents related to their bioinformatics solutions.
"The ability to manage change requirements early in the development process is critical to our business. It not only saves our organization rework, time and money, but ensures that we are creating the highest quality software possible," said Jim Pearson, manager, quality assurance at Rosetta Biosoftware. "The new traceability capabilities incorporated into this release will be of great benefit, helping to improve our communication and streamline the overall development process through greater visibility."
A True Enterprise Requirements Management System, Made Easy
CaliberRM 2005 Release 2 delivers enterprise-class requirements management capabilities in an intuitive, easy-to-use interface. Designed to capture and manage business, technical, functional, and operational requirements, it enables stakeholders across the organization to collaborate effectively so that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to specification.
Enhanced integration with Borland's StarTeam software change and configuration management solution enables users to link from requirements captured in CaliberRM to StarTeam process items -- including files, change requests, tasks, requirements and topics -- to facilitate powerful impact analysis.
CaliberRM 2005 Release 2 now includes Borland Datamart at no additional charge, providing essential business intelligence to monitor trends, discover opportunities, and optimize strategies related to software delivery. Datamart provides in-depth query and analysis capabilities that track metrics, trends and problem areas across multiple repositories. With advanced graphs and reports, Datamart can help business and development teams understand resource usage, bottlenecks, potential bugs and how projects are progressing against initial predictions.
Along with Datamart, CaliberRM 2005 Release 2 also offers powerful information mining capabilities with Borland Search Server. This enables organizations to quickly and easily retrieve information across multiple, distributed repositories, an important capability for those with geographically distributed teams.
CaliberRM is platform agnostic, integrating with many of today's leading development environments and lifecycle tools including Borland JBuilder(R), Borland Delphi(R), Eclipse, Microsoft(R) Visual Studio(R) and Mercury Quality Center(TM) and Mercury TestDirector(R). In addition, CaliberRM 2005 Release 2 includes support for Microsoft Windows Server(TM) 2003.
The Path to Software Delivery Optimization
The new capabilities being introduced in CaliberRM 2005 Release 2 are also being incorporated into Borland's Core Software Delivery Platform (Core SDP(TM)) -- an integrated, role-based platform designed to increase visibility and control over all phases of the software delivery process. CaliberRM and Core SDP are key components of Borland's Software Delivery Optimization (SDO(TM)) vision, Borland's vision for transforming software development to an accelerated and disciplined approach that aligns the people, process, and technology required to maximize the business value of software.
