Intel Takes Role in Unisys Government Transformation Center

Posted on: Wednesday, 2 November 2005, 12:00 CST

Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) today announced that Intel Corporation will take a vital role in addressing government IT initiatives at the Unisys Government Transformation Center in Reston, Va.

The solutions developed at the Government Transformation Center draw on Unisys 3D Visible Enterprise (3D-VE) strategy, which is designed to enable a client to see the links among business strategy, processes and IT requirements throughout the entire enterprise and gain unprecedented visibility into the impacts and costs of strategic decisions at all levels even before making them.

"We are excited that Intel will be a key participant in our Government Transformation Center," said Greg Baroni, president, Unisys Global Public Sector. "Intel processor technology is a crucial part of the foundation for Unisys solutions in multiple areas, such as real-time infrastructure, enterprise security initiatives, open source software and Microsoft environments. Working together, Intel is helping Unisys develop secure, robust solutions that help meet government's most demanding business requirements."

The alliance with Intel builds upon Unisys newly announced plan to deliver solutions for secure business operations. To support this strategy, Unisys is aligning with a select list of leading technology providers to deliver customer solutions that take advantage of those companies' expertise along with the power of 3D-VE.

"Our work in the Unisys Government Transformation Center is already yielding tremendous benefits for end-users," said John Davies, Intel vice president and general manager of Customer Solutions. "Intel(R) Xeon(R) and Itanium(R) platforms provide a powerful computing foundation for software solutions based on Unisys 3D-VE strategy, helping provide government agencies more effective computing systems."

In addition to their government work, Unisys and Intel are teaming on other initiatives, such as:

-- Open, Enterprise-Class Platforms and Solutions. For businesses looking to move away from UNIX/RISC to Linux, Unisys is expanding its leadership in delivering enterprise services and solutions using open standards based on Intel processor technology for some of the largest mission-critical operations in the world. Unisys uses Intel technology as the foundation for its ES7000 enterprise servers to support the most demanding operations worldwide, with real-time infrastructure solutions that help clients respond to business changes and maintain operational continuity.

-- RFID for Global Visible Commerce. Unisys and Intel are collaborating in a multi-company pilot program to help secure the flow of prescription medicines from factory to pharmacy counter by establishing the pharmacy industry's first electronic drug pedigree - a certificate of authenticity detailing a drug's movement through the supply chain.

-- IT Outsourcing. Intel is working with Unisys teams to deliver solutions in areas such as managed desktop services and PC lifecycle management, utility computing, and data center consolidation.
