New Edge Networks' RBA Roster Tops 100 Member Companies

Posted on: Thursday, 3 November 2005, 09:00 CST

New Edge Networks today said its Retail Broadband Alliance roster now includes more than 100 member companies working together to help businesses switch to broadband networks.

NOVA Information Systems Inc., a unit of U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) and the third largest payment processor in the country, based in Atlanta, became the 100th member company to join the Retail Broadband Alliance.

The 101st and 102nd member companies were Emeryville, Calif.-based Pandora Networks, a provider of on-demand IP communications services, and Telkonet Inc. (AMEX:TKO), a developer and marketer of technology that enables voice, data, and video communications over existing electrical wiring in buildings. Telkonet is based in Germantown, MD.

The Retail Broadband Alliance is a resource and referral forum of companies working together to make it easy for merchants to migrate to broadband and get more value from new applications running over their networks. Businesses are switching from dial-up telephone connections or more costly traditional wide area networks.

"Businesses need broadband networks to remain competitive in today's environment but many merchants don't know where to turn or don't have enough resources to search and select viable new options that are available," said Dan Moffat, president and CEO of New Edge Networks. "Retail Broadband Alliance members commit to working together for the benefit of their customers. This eliminates finger-pointing when issues come up."

Almost half of recent network sales by New Edge Networks include collaboration and integration of products or services from at least one other Retail Broadband Alliance member company. As many as four member companies have been brought in to provide products and services over a new broadband network powered by New Edge Networks.

In its first year, the Retail Broadband Alliance generated more than $3.6 million in contracts from the sale of broadband networks to businesses. In addition, member companies are generating additional revenue from their sales of hardware, software and services, as well as referral fees from other members.

New Edge Networks formed the Retail Broadband Alliance in November 2004.

Current members include a full lineup of providers for end-to-end retail network solutions. These include credit card payment processors; processing gateways; hardware, software, and applications providers; ATM and kiosk providers; security monitoring services, as well as communications consultants and service integrators. A list of member companies is available at http://www.newedgenetworks.com/solutions/rba/.

Retail merchants pick and choose the providers they want.
