Wonderware, a business unit of Invensys Systems Inc., today announced support for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 data management and analysis software.
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 includes enhanced capabilities that enable Wonderware IndustrialSQL Server historian users to reduce both planned and unplanned downtime, develop solutions for disaster recovery and provide greater system availability. A new Common Language Routine (CLR) feature offers a richer programming environment which enables customers to use C#, VisualBasic.NET and other programming languages and tools to create custom applications.
"The ability to monitor and fine-tune plant performance in real time is giving companies the means to improve plant productivity and efficiency, directly benefiting a plant's bottom line," said Rashesh Mody, Wonderware's chief technology officer. "Wonderware has worked closely with Microsoft on this new product release and we are confident that SQL Server 2005 offers a comprehensive range of high-availability functionality in the plant data historian market. It also will provide a significant competitive advantage for Wonderware and its customers, especially in the areas of increased scalability and underlying performance enhancements."
Wonderware will take advantage of new capabilities in SQL Server 2005, including enhanced scalability, analysis services which support online analytical processing and data mining and developer productivity from CLR.
"Wonderware is a strong industry partner for SQL Server 2005," said Ilya Bukshteyn, director of product management for SQL Server at Microsoft Corp. "We are confident that our work with Wonderware will provide our mutual customers with the products they need to better run their businesses."
Through sales of its IndustrialSQL Server, Industrial Application Server and other server-based products, Wonderware has an installed global base of more than 20,000 SQL servers in the plant floor arena. Wonderware products will support SQL Server 2005 within 90 days.
"Wonderware has been and continues to be committed to supporting the evolution of Microsoft's SQL Server technology," Mody said.
Wonderware will participate as a "Silver Sponsor" at Microsoft's official SQL Server 2005 launch event on Nov. 7 in San Francisco. The event is designed to provide technical education for developers and database administrators, and features personal interaction with industry experts. The event also showcases technical data, customer success stories and partner offerings that demonstrate the business value of SQL Server 2005.
Wonderware IndustrialSQL Server and other production and performance management applications are based on a modular, sustainable architecture, which benefits customers by enabling them to take an incremental approach to plant-improvement initiatives. Wonderware's off-the-shelf products, leveraging ArchestrA technology and the latest Microsoft productivity tools, greatly assist customers to effectively manage plant operations. These tools help users better analyze plant data, increase plant productivity, manage, analyze and report on essential plant data, conduct statistical process control analysis and increase overall plant efficiency in real time.
The Microsoft and Invensys alliance was established in 2003 to combine Invensys' strengths in process and manufacturing applications and expertise in key industry segments with Microsoft platform, technology and enterprise products. The alliance is designed to drive a new generation of Invensys solutions to provide manufacturers with real-time visibility into plant environments and supply chains.
