Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST Servers Deliver Microsoft SQL Server 2005 on Industry-Standard 64-Bit High-Performance Platform

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu Computer Systems today announced the PRIMEQUEST(TM) server line running Microsoft SQL Server 2005 offers data center-class reliability, scalability and availability on an open 64-bit high-performance platform. Designed with Fujitsu mainframe expertise, PRIMEQUEST servers are ideal for mission-critical applications such as large-scale database systems and online transaction processing environments.
"The combination of Fujitsu and Microsoft offers excellent overall value for customers requiring high-end reliability, scalability, and availability in the data center," said Paul Flessner, senior vice president of Server Applications at Microsoft Corp. "This is an example of two technology companies bringing together best-of-breed, mainframe-quality solutions in an industry-standard platform that can deliver maximum flexibility and return on investment to enterprise customers."
The combined solution of PRIMEQUEST servers and SQL Server 2005 provides mission-critical environments with a flexibly scalable database platform. Reliability and availability are ensured through the combination of the SQL Server 2005 automatic Database Mirroring capability and the PRIMEQUEST System Mirror architecture that provides fault immunity for up to eight hardware-isolated partitions, each one a fully independent 'server' that can support an instance of SQL Server 2005. PRIMEQUEST servers can also provide a large single-image platform for hosting consolidated databases and high transaction volumes. In the unlikely event of a system component failure, PRIMEQUEST servers can restore full operation to SQL Server 2005 services by automatically replacing the failed component with a hot-standby system board.
Fujitsu has incorporated years of mainframe, UNIX, and vector processor expertise into the design of the PRIMEQUEST memory and I/O sub-systems, providing the highest levels of performance for Intel(R) Itanium(R) 2-based systems. Combined with professional services from Fujitsu, this allows PRIMEQUEST servers to host the most demanding OLTP and decision-support Microsoft SQL Server 2005 installations.
"Fujitsu is focused on helping our customers implement the business solutions they need to operate at maximum productivity and profitability," said Richard McCormack, senior vice president of Marketing at Fujitsu Computer Systems. "The combination of the PRIMEQUEST family of servers and Microsoft Server and SQL Server 2005 gives enterprises the mission-critical and powerful, yet flexible systems they need to run their businesses."
