Nov. 6--There've been a few minor delays, but a new boat ramp on the Red Lake River in East Grand Forks should be ready for use Friday, an official involved with the project says.
The ramp is located at Eagle Point just upstream from the Louis Murray Bridge.
According to Dean Sether, an engineering aide for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in Bemidji, contractor Davidson Construction of Newfolden, Minn., was scheduled to finish paving the entrance road into the site and pouring the concrete for the doublewide ramp late this past week. That leaves only some minor curb and gutter and landscaping work to complete before the site is accessible to anglers, though use this season likely will be limited, with hunting in full swing.
The site also is lighted to accommodate loading or launching after dark.
With completion of the Red Lake River landing, boaters in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks will have access to three new ramps. Contractors last month completed new landings on the Grand Forks side of the Red River north of Riverside Dam and in the south end of the city in Lincoln Park.
Anglers on the Red Lake River have been without boating access for three years, since construction of the permanent levee system in East Grand Forks closed off the road to the old access in Folson Park. The new ramp, which cost more than $206,000, has parking to accommodate 25 vehicle-trailer rigs.
