EPM Explorer allows memory sticks to be used securely anywhere in the world
Reflex Magnetics, a leading provider of IT security solutions for organizations worldwide, today released EPM Explorer, a transparent encryption solution for removable media devices that strengthens network security and protects against data theft. EPM Explorer delivers unprecedented security to traditionally unprotected USB media devices by utilizing technology that finally balances security and usability. Memory sticks armed with EPM Explorer technology can be used securely anywhere in the world.
EPM Explorer ensures that data can be securely exchanged between removable media and desktop and laptop computers by implementing transparent encryption capability. This encryption, which is not device, brand or model specific, is centrally managed and enforceable based on administrator-defined criteria, and when used within the protected network environment, is completely transparent to the user. Administrators can also globally enforce defined password criteria, and the revocation of specific user or group access to defined encrypted devices can be performed on the fly.
"More and more organizations in the finance and health care industries, as well as the military and government space, are using USB memory sticks and flash drives to transport and exchange information," said Tony Pepper, North American sales director for Reflex Magnetics. "Unfortunately, these devices are usually not regulated and pose a variety of security threats to the integrity of the network and the organization. EPM Explorer ensures that memory sticks are secure, while protecting the network from viruses and preventing corporate information from being removed intentionally or accidentally. EPM Explorer allows IT administrators to monitor and enforce appropriate use of company-approved devices beyond the walls of the organization, constantly ensuring the integrity of the information and hardware."
Encrypted devices are assigned a unique identification, and the devices can be assigned to groups of users or organizational units in addition to single users. A device can also be configured to allow access only on specific workstations and networks with the ability to establish site trust relationships. EPM Explorer provides policy-based security for an organization's information and ensures data integrity at all times. This component enables businesses to promote the use of digital storage devices in a controlled and secure manner. EPM Explorer also allows administrators to establish offline read/write access on third-party systems without the need to install any software or the user having local administration rights.
