FarStone Expands Personal Disaster Recovery Product Line to Make Total System Recovery Easier in More Data Loss Scenarios; Launch of RestoreIT Pro and RestoreIT 7.0 Gives Enterprise-Level Features to Consumers and Small Businesses

FarStone Technology Inc., a developer of security solutions and performance utilities for PCs and networks, today announced it has expanded its RestoreIT Personal Disaster Recovery(TM) product line to include RestoreIT Pro and RestoreIT 7.0. These versions include new tools for total system and data loss recovery that bring enterprise-level capabilities to consumers and small businesses at an affordable cost.
In the event of a total system crash, some data recovery programs will work as long as Windows can be accessed; but if Windows will not start, users can lose all their data and may be stuck reinstalling all of their applications as well as their operating system. FarStone's RestoreIT is a simple software program that makes data and system recovery easy. The user can quickly reset their entire system to an earlier, pre-crash, pre-virus state, even if Windows won't boot. By simply clicking the spacebar, users can instantly restore their data, files or system. With the new versions, FarStone has improved its personal disaster recovery technology to offer users even more ways to restore their entire system under a wider variety of computer disaster occurrences.
"We see a demand among consumers and small business owners for affordable technologies that allow them to enjoy advanced options and features that were once only available to large companies," said Tom Fedro, executive vice president, FarStone. "RestoreIT Pro and RestoreIT 7.0 add enterprise-class functionality that gives users a variety of ways to backup and restore their data in order to increase their chances of recovery after data loss resulting from many different scenarios."
Both RestoreIT Pro and RestoreIT 7.0 include new features that enable users to backup and restore their entire system - including applications, personal settings, passwords and precious data - on network drives and USB drives, in addition to a hard drive or CD/DVD. This makes it easier to store data off-site and minimize loss of crucial data due to theft or hard disk failure. For example, a laptop user who uses RestoreIT to backup data onto a USB drive will be able to easily restore that data in the event the laptop is lost or stolen. Similarly, a small business owner who uses RestoreIT to backup data from all desktops to the network will be able to recover data such as personal settings and passwords in the event of an individual desktop's hard drive failure.
RestoreIT Pro adds an extra layer of protection by including a replication or "ghosting" feature that makes an exact copy of a user's hard drive and clones it to another hard drive, network, USB device, or writeable CD/DVD. The Pro version also adds a new "system image preview" capability that enables users to view the directory structure of their backup points prior to choosing one to restore to. This is an important feature because once committed to, system restoration cannot be undone. By allowing the user to preview their system image before restoring, this feature helps ensure the successful recovery to the correct system image they need.
Additionally, both RestoreIT Pro and RestoreIT 7.0 include an enhanced, easy-to-use interface, new administrative tools and support for Linux-based systems and RAID 0/1.
RestoreIT 7.0 is priced at $39.99 US; and RestoreIT Pro is priced at $59.99 US. Both products are available now in electronic form at www.farstone.com and will soon be available in CD form at retail outlets throughout North America.
About RestoreIT
The RestoreIT product line offers powerful, easy-to-use Personal Disaster Recovery(TM) products that automatically backup data, files and entire systems on a hidden partition under the operating system. This enables users to recover data by rolling back the system to a point where it was working properly in the event of a computer disaster. RestoreIT recovers data after a virus or hacker attack, a Windows(R) crash, a software installation gone wrong, a problem caused by human error, loss or theft of a device or other types of disasters. Since it loads before Windows, RestoreIT will recover all files, system applications and personal settings and passwords even when Windows does not boot.
