Posted on: Wednesday, 9 November 2005, 12:00 CST

Members of the Trusted Computing Group have elected representatives from Infineon, Seagate Technologies and Wave Systems to the organization's board of directors for a one-year term. Trusted Computing Group (TCG) is an open industry standards organization whose specifications help vendors build products that let users protect critical data and information across a variety of devices and platforms.

The new board members were elected to a one-year term. The board, whose membership includes AMD, HP, IBM, Intel, Microsoft and Sun, guides the approximately 120 members and its work groups in development of industry specifications for hardware and software that protect PCs and other computing devices from attacks of critical information and transactions.

"With their expertise in trusted computing and its applications, Infineon, Seagate Technologies and Wave Systems will have a critical role in driving trusted computing across the enterprise and providing the building blocks to secure data, transactions, systems and communications for business and users," noted Jim Ward, president, TCG.

A key element of Trusted Computing is the Trusted Platform Module, or TPM, a set of security building blocks that enable storage of protected passwords, digital keys and certificates. Endpoint Technologies Associates, an industry research firm, has forecasted that by 2010, more than 250 million modules will ship on client systems.(a) Systems with TPMs are available today from virtually all PC vendors worldwide.

This year, the group has released an open specification for ensuring endpoint integrity of clients connecting to networks and specification for trusted servers, and the group is working on specifications for trusted storage, mobile phones and peripherals.

More information and the organization's specifications and work groups are available at the Trusted Computing Group's Web site, www.trustedcomputinggroup.org.
