Olympus-ITA Receives Repeat Order to Supply Wafer and Defect Review Systems to Major Integrated Device Manufacturer; AL3100 System Use Expanded Within Company

Posted on: Wednesday, 9 November 2005, 12:00 CST

Olympus Integrated Technologies America (ITA), a subsidiary of Olympus Corporation of Japan, known for high quality semiconductor systems and software for wafer inspection and defect review, announced an agreement with one of the world's largest US integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) to purchase additional 300mm wafer inspection and defect review systems from Olympus. This represents the IDM's third order to Olympus for the AL3100 system, and is significant because systems are being purchased by multiple groups within the company.

The AL3100 provides 200 and 300mm wafer inspection, defect review and wafer ID verification and sorting capability in a single small footprint. It performs a broad range of inspection and defect review tasks, providing information on defects and maximizing yields for manufacturers on the leading edge of semiconductor processes. Flexible load port configuration allows the system to adapt to any manufacturing area layout requirement. This system can integrate 248nm deep ultraviolet (DUV) optics with a broad range of visible light imaging methods to increase the resolution limit of standard optical inspection to 0.08 microns. Compliance with 300mm factory automation standards further helps Olympus customers to reduce cost and improve performance in the factory.

"The quality and reliability of Olympus' inspection and defect review systems is driving repeat business," said Greg Baker, chief operating officer of Olympus-ITA. "Because we develop application software for the system in San Jose, we are able to work closely with US customers to expand the system's capabilities and find new applications for the systems in different areas within the same facility."
