Delta Airlines hopes to open new route between China, US

BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Delta Airlines, one of the leading US airlines, officially opened its Beijing Sales Office here on Wednesday as part of its efforts to provide direct air service between Beijing and Atlanta, Georgia in southeastern United States.

According to Delta's Vice President of International and Alliances Jorge Fernandez, Delta is eager to begin nonstop service between Beijing and Atlanta in time for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games.

If selected, Delta's new Atlanta service would offer Chinese travelers more convenient connecting opportunity than any other US gateway city with access to more than 190 US cities, Jorge Fernandez claimed.

He added that China represents the fastest growing region for international travelers and cargo shippers from the southeast area of the United States.

According to company sources, Delta Airlines is the world's second-largest airline in terms of passengers carried and the leading US carrier across the Atlantic, offering daily flights to 506 destinations in 91 countries. Delta now has code-sharing cooperation with China Southern Airlines.
