Sharan, 10 November 10: The American led Provincial Reconstruction Team [PRT] will launch a medium wave (AM) radio station in the Shkin area of Barmal District in Paktika, the southeast of Afghanistan.
Head of the Information and Culture Department Jamil Ghawar told Pajhwok Afghan News on Thursday [10 November] that the PRT had promised to establish a radio station in Shkin which would air programmes on medium wave.
The radio station will broadcast programmes in Pashto that can be heard in Afghanistan as well as in some areas of neighbouring Pakistan, he added.
Golab Mengal, the governor of Paktika Province, confirmed the launch of the radio station but stopped short of giving further details.
Mohammad Halim Fadai, the editor of the Paktika Weekly, told this news agency that the media used to set apart the rulers from the people.
The new radio station will bring the people closer to each other and to the government, he added.
