ADIC Begins Shipments of New Midrange Library Platform; Intelligent Library Combines Scalability, Performance and Management for Midrange Environments
Posted on: Thursday, 17 November 2005, 18:00 CST
Advanced Digital Information Corporation (NASDAQ:ADIC), the leader in Intelligent Storage(TM) solutions for the open system market, announced that yesterday, November 16, it began shipping the first units of its new, Scalar(R) i500-platform midrange library to customers. Announced publicly on November 1, 2005, the Scalar i500 platform is the first in the industry to offer growing midrange environments the combination of flexible scalability and integrated intelligence needed to improve the effectiveness of backup.
The new Scalar i500 platform is designed with configurations that range from one drive and 36 tapes up to 18 drives and 404 tapes. Systems scale easily with user-installable expansion modules and offer users non-disruptive capacity-on-demand growth options.
"We are pleased to announce that ADIC is now shipping the industry's first intelligent midrange library platform," said Bill Britts, ADIC Executive Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing. "We know that providing midrange storage environments with more effective data protection options is important both for our branded customers and for our existing OEM and reseller partners."
The Scalar i500 introduces several industry firsts for midrange libraries, all designed to make backup more reliable and easier to manage:
-- The Scalar i500 is the first midrange library to use ADIC's iPlatform(TM) architecture and iLayer(TM) management approach. These features give the library advanced integrated management functions while eliminating the need for external library control servers or software.
-- The Scalar i500 is the first midrange library to combine flexible, easy-to-install, modular scalability with the simplicity and reliability of a single, continuous positive-drive robotics system. This unique combination allows the library to meet the needs of users from smaller workgroups through midrange data centers.
-- The Scalar i500 is also the first midrange library to offer integrated support for the Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) standard. SMI-S support allows the library to be discovered and managed directly by third-party Storage Resource Management tools, including EMC ControlCenter.
