American Airlines Supports St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Thanks And Giving Campaign

Posted on: Monday, 21 November 2005, 15:00 CST

NEW YORK, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Airlines announced that its flight attendants are collecting contributions from passengers aboard flights departing from New York Airports on behalf of the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's Thanks and Giving campaign. The collections began on November 18 aboard flights taking off from JFK, LaGuardia and Newark Airports, and will continue through Thanksgiving Day, November 24.

St. Jude, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, is the first institution established for the sole purpose of conducting basic and clinical research into catastrophic childhood diseases. Thomas' daughter, actress Marlo Thomas, is National Outreach Director for St. Jude. In its annual Thanks and Giving program, St. Jude encourages consumers to show their support while teaming up with some of the nation's most respected corporations to promote the campaign.

"American Airlines flight attendants and customers are the key to the success of the Thanks and Giving campaign at American," said Chuck Imhof, Managing Director - Greater New York for American Airlines. "We are proud to be a new corporate sponsor of St. Jude, which is where doctors send their patients who are in greatest need. It is a place where pioneering research, revolutionary discoveries and miracles happen every day."

"I am thrilled to have American Airlines as one of our newest corporate partners," said Thomas. "American Airlines is a good friend to the children of St. Jude."

American Airlines has been a long-standing supporter of the charitable and cultural institutions of Greater New York, which 8,500 American employees call home. American provides sponsorships and in-kind giving to organizations and events ranging from Citymeals-on-Wheels to Lincoln Center Theater, and the Westbury Music Fair. Airline employees also work closely with health professionals -- sometimes in other countries -- to ensure that children are transported to medical facilities in New York and throughout the country.
