Move into MySpace, Create Your Community

Posted on: Tuesday, 22 November 2005, 03:02 CST

By JIM BAINBRIDGE THE GAZETTE

Especially popular with teens and young adults, MySpace.com allows anybody to create a private community online where they can share photos, journals and interests, all without cost. Once you've registered, you start building your own online universe, inviting friends and acquaintances to visit you by e-mail.

It has proved a useful tool for single people who want to meet other singles, matchmakers who want to connect their friends with other friends, families who want to keep in touch, businesspeople interested in networking, classmates and study partners or anyone looking for long-lost friends.

INTERNET LINKS

Massive Links is a search engine with a difference. Sure, you can start by typing in your own search terms, but the Massive Links home page has a list of categories that you can click on and explore.

Suppose you are interested in shopping. You simply click on that category and it takes you to a page with more than two dozen subcategories, plus a directory list of "premium sites."

The real benefit seems to be that Massive Links turns up sites -- or topics -- that you wouldn't have known were out there.

LAW

The Association of Trial Lawyers of America, mindful of the public's often negative view of their labors, has produced a detailed explanation of what does -- and does not -- constitute a "frivolous" lawsuit.

Topics include "Rule 11" (the federal act that provides sanctions for attorneys who bring frivolous claims), malpractice suits, the McDonald's "scalding coffee case" and the issue of businesses suing businesses.

TIME CAPSULE

Forbes has devised a digital time capsule so that you can open a window on your past whenever you like. You just write a letter or a list of things on your mind, then decide when you want to receive it -- from one year to 20 years from now.

Forbes sends it out to cyberspace and then returns it to you by e- mail.
