ACCESS Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4813), a global provider of mobile content delivery and Internet access technologies, announced that the number of devices equipped with its NetFront family of browsers has surpassed 200 million deployments worldwide. The achievement of this milestone firmly establishes NetFront as the leading browser for the mobile and beyond-PC markets.
NetFront is widely recognized as one of the most advanced mobile browsers in the world, but NetFront is also widely popular as a browser solution for set-top boxes, game consoles, digital televisions, car navigation systems, and dedicated Internet terminals. With its scalable and compact module structure, NetFront offers Internet device manufacturers rapid time-to-market while reducing overall development costs. Global shipments of devices deployed with NetFront, based on umbrella agreements with client companies, have been steadily growing and in September 2005, passed the 200 million mark representing 720 unique Internet devices.
NetFront v3.3, the latest version of the browser, was released in January of this year. NetFront v3.3 provides comprehensive support for global Internet standards as established by the Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C), including HTML 4.01, xHTML 1.0, cHTML, WML 1.3, SSL 3.0, HTTP 1.1, JavaScript 1.5, CSS and more. NetFront delivers a PC-like Internet browsing experience on mobile devices and it can be deployed with technologies that are unique to ACCESS including integrated support for Adobe(R) Reader(TM) LE a solution for displaying Adobe PDF documents and NetFront Document Viewer, an integrated solution that supports the display of documents created with Microsoft(R) Office.
"As a browser at the forefront and crest of the consumer information device world, NetFront has established itself as the de facto standard. In the future, it will continue to link all kinds of devices in networks and play a leading role in the realization of the ubiquitous Internet society," said Toru Arakawa, president and CEO of ACCESS.
