BELFAST - The state Department of Transportation has recommended speed limit changes for two city roads.
In response to a recent speed zone review conducted by the department, DOT recommended that a 40 mph speed be adopted starting at the junction of the Kaler Road and Robbins Road and extend 1.3 miles to the junction of the Kaler Road and Oak Hill Road.
A 35 mph advisory speed plate should be installed in both directions in advance of the sharp curve on the Kaler Road about one- half mile north of Robbins Road.
The department also recommended that the existing 40 mph speed limit on the Waterville Road be reduced to 35 mph starting at a point 1.7 miles beyond the junction of Route 137 and Doak Road and extending westerly to a point one-quarter mile beyond the junction of Route 137 and Route 7.
Oversize speed limit signs with red flags and "Reduced Speed Ahead" signs should be installed facing both directions of Route 137 in advance of the new 35 mph speed limit signs due to the high number of recorded accidents along that stretch of highway.
